Typography Play

I work with typography as often as I can in all mediums. I use every opportunity I have to do shooting & editing, illustrating and more on personal projects so I can stretch my arms.

36 Days of Type

36 video stills from the 36 Days of Type challenge which I participated in three years in a row. Letters are made of colored wax which was shot in a light box and edited in After Effects.

Finding the Colors

I laid out the spectrum of colors with the 36 characters using chalk pastels that I ground up to make powdered pigments for each character.

A in it’s mold

I ended used silicon molds and wax colors to create the effect.

Video Stills

Video stills of the Abstract the Art of Design title intro I created using frozen pain pigment and water. Shot and edited backwards to reveal the word “Abstract” out of the abstract puddle of color. Read about the process in the Medium article here

Valley of the Dolls Book Cover

A redesign of the iconic cover for Jacqueline Susann’s Valley of the Dolls. Cover art was shot and edited in my home studio.

Alphabet from Scraps

Alphabet made from random crap from Michaels. Added googly eyes in tribute to the great Christopher Walken. Shot by Dylan Ellis.

36 Acrylic Nails

For my second year of doing the 36 Days of Type Challenge I did sculptured acrylic nails for letters A-Z and numbers 0-9

Process Shot

For the above design I photographed my own hand holding a laptop charger and added a little clay to the right side. I Photoshopped out the charger and put in the lighter from the film Strangers on a Train. I added the smoke to imitate the smoke of the train.

Bus Advertisement- Strangers on a Train

A bus advert for a black and white film festival featuring Hitchcock’s classic Strangers on a Train.

Logo for a Black and White Film Festival utilizes the concept of a drop cap beginning the left and right pages of the newspaper that are so oversized as to create the BW for the Black and White. Go deeper and you realize the black and white of the traditional newspaper adds to the theme of the newspaper.

Six Word Story

An illustration for a Six Word Story found on the Six Word Story thread on Reddit playing on the “V” of the zipper and the “i” of the zipper pull.
